*  Since being elected to the Parish Council four years ago, I have tried to help ensure that Marden remains a good place to live and work in.  I have been leading the council's drive to obtain sensible traffic calming measures in the village centre and for quieter country lanes.  Other issues I am particularly concerned about include: decent public transport, meeting local housing needs, improving facilities for young people and better rural policing.  Together with my wife and three children, we are involved in a wide range of village activities. I hope you will give me the opportunity to represent you again as a Parish Councillor.

I have served as a Parish Councillor for eight years and have tried to ensure that Marden has, and will, be able to benefit from all opportunities.  I am a Town and Country Planner and an instigator of the Marden Parish Design Statement.  I live in the centre of the village.  My son attends Marden Primary School where I am a Governor and Parent Helper.  My daughter attends Marden Pre-School Playgroup.  I believe in continuing to support our thriving village community and contributed to the Marden Festival.  My main motivation in seeking re-election is to encourage local people to have their say in making local decisions.

I have been associated with Marden since 1971 when I first met my wife, Barbara Watts.  Barbara was born and raised in the village, we married in Marden and our sons were christened here.  I served 15 years in the Royal Engineers and in 1976 I joined the Metropolitan Police, retiring after 27 years as a Detective.  I intend to defend rural England’s way of life from over development.  I will seek to have our roads and Marden Station repaired.  I view Community Policing as a major priority.

At 22 I am the youngest candidate for this election and I have lived in Marden since birth attending Marden Primary School before moving to Maidstone Girls Grammar School.    I currently work at Marden Primary School as a Teacher Assistant so know many of your children.  I am also a member of Marden Hockey and Cricket Club.  I have been involved in many village activities including both Marden theatre groups.  Having grown up in Marden I have a high regard for village life and I feel it is important that all parishioners, young and old,  have their views represented:  I hope to have this opportunity.

SPAIN Paula
Marden has been my home for 12 years.  I am married with 2 daughters; grew up locally, attended Invicta Grammar School, lived and worked in London and Australia.  An active member of the Marden School PTA, I have been involved in many successful fund raising events. As Home Ownership Officer for Maidstone Housing Trust (previously Maidstone Borough Council), I understand how local government works.  With your vote I will strive to retain the invaluable community spirit Marden can be proud of; support the needs of children in the village; encourage progress in a sensitive way and always be available to represent people of Marden who need a ‘voice’.

I have lived in Marden for 23 years and have served as secretary of the Marden Society and Marden Theatre Group and am a member of Marden Horticultural Society.  I was also on the organising committee for the 2003 Marden Festival.  If elected my priorities will be to help to ensure that building development is in accordance with the village design statement: the railway service is not eroded: that adequate traffic controls exist in the village, especially to deal with parking, speeding and heavy lorries and that we have a clean and safe environment to live in.
